Finding Flavor in Saginaw: Part 1
- Kakes the Great Popcorn

Let’s be real. When people think of Saginaw, they don’t always picture it as a destination. Too often, the story has focused on what’s missing instead of what’s here. But change doesn’t happen by accident — it happens when small businesses decide to create experiences worth traveling for.
That’s exactly why Kakes the Great Popcorn Co. opened its doors inside the historic SVRC Marketplace in Riverfront Saginaw. Our mission? To turn an ordinary snack into an extraordinary reason to visit Downtown.
Why Popcorn? Why Here?
Popcorn is comfort food with memory baked in — movie nights, summer fairs, family traditions. But we wanted to push it further. Our shop offers 8–10 fresh, handcrafted flavors daily, from classics like caramel to adventurous blends like ranch or cookies and cream. Every bag is made right in the shop, so you’re not just buying a snack, you’re experiencing Saginaw in a new way.
More Than a Storefront
We’ve been featured on Under the Radar Michigan, spotlighting Saginaw as a city with hidden gems. Located near the Dow Event Center, Hoyt Park, and Old Town Saginaw, we’re a perfect stop before a concert, a hockey game, or a walk along the Riverfront. Each flavor we create is proof that this city is building something fresh and joyful.
The Takeaway
Yes, Saginaw has its challenges. But we’re answering with color, creativity, and community pride. Kakes the Great Popcorn Co. is proof that small, intentional action can change a narrative — one bag at a time.
